Santos is a municipality in the São Paulo state of Brazil, founded in 1546 by the Portuguese nobleman Brás Cubas. It is partially located on the island of São Vicente which harbors both the city of Santos and the city of São Vicente, and partially on the mainland. It is the main city in the metropolitan region of Baixada Santista. As of 2006, its population was estimated at 418,375 (1,476,820 metro area). Santos has the biggest seaport in Latin America, which traded over 72 million tons in 2006; is a significant tourist centre; has large industrial complexes and shipping centres, which handle a large portion of the world's coffee exports; as well as a number of other Brazilian exports including steel, oil, cars, oranges, bananas and cotton. The city also displays the Coffee Museum, where, once, coffee prices were negotiated; and a football memorial, dedicated to the city's greatest players, amongst which is Pelé. Its beach's garden, 5.335 km length, figures in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest beach front garden. Santos is home for the famous football club Santos FC, where Pelé has played.

The exportation of coffee from the Port of Santos gave rise to and greatly increased the modernity of the city. A charasteritic found that adorns the landscape of the port city are the canals with over a hundred years of antiquity. In 1899, Santos was the point of entry for the bubonic plague into Brazil.[2] In 1924, it became the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Santos.

In October 2006, light crude oil was discovered off the coast in the Santos basin.

Santos is about 79 km (49 mi) from the metropolis São Paulo, capital of the state São Paulo.

The name Abdullah Muda or "Haji Lah" as he is known to Pulau Duyung folks, is synonymous with the shipbuilding industry in Terengganu.

Abdullah's fine and quality work has drawn international acclaim and the ships he made have sailed across the seas, from the idylic Pulau Duyong offshore until the freezing waters of Alaska.

"Shipbuilding has given me great gratification...especially when the quality is evaluated by foreigners who are impressed by the unique Malay skills and craftsmanship," the 69-year-old shipbuilder told Bernama at his house in Pulau Duyung recently.

To date, Abdullah has made more than 100 ships of various sizes and designs with the foreign orders coming from countries like United States, Canada, Australia, France and Singapore.

Apart from the conventional fishing boats and "perahu kolek", Abdullah who is assisted by 10 workers, also makes "Bedor" and "Pinis" yachts.

Haji Lah's efforts had brought him numerous accolades like the Terengganu Arts Personality Award (2002), Heritage Entrepreneur Award (2004), Heritage Entrepreneurs' Special President's Award (2004) and Terengganu Arts Award (2005).

Kuala Gandah Lanchang( Pusat Pemuliharaan Gajah)

PUSAT KONSERVASI GAJAH KEBANGSAAN KUALA GANDAH, PAHANG

GDANKS , POLAND

Gdańsk (pronounced /ɡəˈdɑːnsk/, Polish [gdaɲsk] ; German: Danzig [ˈdantsɪç] ; Kashubian: Gduńsk; Latin: Gedania, Dantiscum) is the city at the centre of the fourth-largest metropolitan area in Poland.[1] It is Poland's principal seaport as well as the capital of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. It is also historically the largest city of the Kashubian region.

The city lies on the southern edge of Gdańsk Bay (of the Baltic Sea), in a conurbation with the spa town of Sopot, the city of Gdynia and suburban communities, which together form a metropolitan area called the Tricity (Trójmiasto), with a population of over 800,000.[1] Gdańsk itself has a population of 458,053 (2006), making it the largest city in the Pomerania region of Northern Poland.

Gdańsk is situated at the mouth of the Motława River, connected to the Leniwka, a branch in the delta of the nearby Vistula River, whose waterway system waters 60% of the area of Poland and connects Gdańsk to the national capital in Warsaw. This gives the city a unique advantage as the center of Poland's sea trade. Together with the nearby port of Gdynia, Gdańsk is also an important industrial center. Historically an important seaport and shipbuilding center, Gdańsk was a member of the Hanseatic League.

The city was the birthplace of the Solidarity movement which, under the leadership of Gdańsk political activist Lech Wałęsa, played a major role in bringing an end to communist rule across Central Europe. It is also the home and birthplace of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who is of Kashubian origin.

PLANET HOLLYWOOD VANCOUVER

It was a brainchild of Robert Earl, former president of Hard Rock Cafe. Planet Hollywoods were modeled after the Hard Rock formula, so closely in fact that a lawsuit ensued and awarded the Hard Rock millions in damages.Earl recruited many former Hard Rock veterans to open new PH stores. Movie star "owners" received stock options at rock bottom price in exchange for their endorsement, thus they could be billed as legal owners.

Planet Hollywood was founded, marketed and branded by Keith Barish, who also served as its Chairman. He left Planet Hollywood in 1998.

In 1994 Planet Hollywood founded the Official All Star Café sports-themed restaurant chain.

In 1997 Planet Hollywood entered a joint partnership with AMC Theaters to develop Planet Movies by AMC.

In 1998 Planet Hollywood entered the ice cream business when it launched Cool Planet, the business was scrapped later that year.

Schwarzenegger severed his financial ties with the business in early 2000.[2] Schwarzenegger said the company had not had the success he had hoped for, claiming he wanted to focus his attention on "new US global business ventures" and his movie career.[2]

Gastown is an area of Vancouver, British Columbia, located at the northeast end of Downtown adjacent to the Downtown Eastside [1] [2]. Its historical boundaries were the waterfront (now Water Street and the CPR tracks), Columbia Street, Hastings Street, and Cambie Street, which were the borders of the first townsite survey, the proper name and postal address of which was Granville, B.I. ("Burrard Inlet"). Today's official boundary does not include most of Hastings Street except for the Woodward's and Dominion Buildings.

The Gastown Steam Clock

Gastown's most famous (though nowhere near oldest) landmark is its steam-powered clock, located on the corner of Cambie and Water Street. Built to cover a steam grate, part of Vancouver's distributed steam-heating system, the clock was built as a way to harness the steam and to prevent street people from sleeping on the spot in cold weather. Its original design was faulty and it had to be powered by electricity after a breakdown. The steam mechanism was completely restored with the financial support of local businesses as it had become a major tourist attraction, and is promoted as a heritage feature although it is of modern invention. The steam used is low pressure downtown-wide steam heating network (from a plant adjacent to the Georgia Viaduct) that powers a miniature steam engine in its base, in turn driving a chain lift. The chain lift moves steel balls upward, where they are unloaded and roll to a descending chain. The weight of the balls on the descending chain drives a conventional pendulum clock escapement, geared to the hands on the four faces. The steam also powers the clock's sound production as whistles are used instead of bells to produce the Westminster "chime" and to signal the time.

This faux-heritage steam clock entertains tourists

Gastown retains few vestiges of its 1970s role as "Haight-Ashbury North". with the area now mostly coffee shops, galleries, native art and import stores, restaurants and nightclubs.

My Shekou Photo Album

Situated on the Pearl River of southern China,Shekou is around 20 kms from downtown Shenzhen, the country's booming town bordering Hong Kong. It's also where China Merchants Shekou Industrial Zone, China's first out-oriented Special Economic Zone,is headquartered. Established by the Qing Dynasty Government in 1782,China Merchants Group is currently one of the biggest State-owned conglomerates based in Hong Kong.

Nowadays
Shekou has become one of the city's major scenic spots drawing not only tourists, but also home buyers because of its small-town feel that you won't find in other coastal cities in China. Besides, starting up a business in this area, you will benefit from local resources at low rates.

Shekou (Chinese; pinyin: Shékŏu; literally "Snake's Mouth") is an area at the tip of Nantou Peninsula in Shenzhen, Guangdong, southern China, south of NantouLau Fau Shan of Hong Kong across Deep Bay. and facing

It was formerly a customs station in Bao'an County and now belongs to Nanshan District of Shenzhen. On 31 January 1979, it became Shekou Industrial Zone developed solely by China Merchants of Hong Kong, earlier than the formation of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.

Since the 1980s, after foreign oil majors such as Agip, Chevron, Texaco, StatoilHydro and Shell obtained concessions for oil exploration in the South China Sea, Shekou started serving as a base for a small contingent of foreign oil platform workers, since qualified personnel were not available locally. As a result of this first mover advantage in catering for mainly western tastes in housing, food and drink, entertainment and schooling, at a time when no alternatives were available in the area, Shekou gradually became home to the majority of the expatriate population working in and around Shenzhen and part of its hinterland in the Pearl River Delta. This trend has however abated after 2003, as the country's continued economic reform, development of the Nanshan and Futian areas, and substantial increases in English levels of university graduates have made life in the city proper more acceptable to many foreigners without school-age children.

In 2003, the local government, seeking to capitalize on the foreign flavor of the town, invested in a complete make-over of Sea World, turning it into a western-style entertainment area centered around the grounded Minghuaship, a 14,000 ton, 168 m long vessel built in 1962 as French president Charles De Gaulle's private yacht, and purchased by China in 1973.

An extensionto line 2 of the city's subway connecting the locality to downtown Shenzhen is under construction and is scheduled for completion in 2009.

Lemang Mexico Rendang Brazil. Lemang is a traditional food, originating with the Minangkabau people of Indonesia and Malaysia, which is cooked in a hollowed bamboo stick lined with banana leaf to prevent the rice from sticking to the bamboo. Usually prepared for festivities such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Raya Haji, lemang is made of glutinous rice and coconut milk, with salt added for taste. Some lemang recipes add corn. Lemang is usually eaten with rendang. Lemang is also popularly eaten with durian; unsurprisingly the demand for lemang increases dramatically in West Sumatra after durian are harvested.
